Music Video Finale

For our music video, our new GT project, I have a 4 person team. They are Treysen, Josiah, and Andrew. We chose the song 24K Magic by Bruno Mars. We chose this song because we felt like we could make a good music video story since the feeling of the songs lyrics have a good changing sequence between melodic and fast paced rhythms. We also liked how the song would have some good lyrics for us to use effects to showcase lyrics.

Our storyline is about a group of friends that are getting ready. They are getting ready to perform at a concert. They are calling each other  . Then they go in an expensive car to the place where there performing. When they start performing we might have it where they have to put on silly costumes or there audience is no one. This would be a comedy bit since they spent all that time and money getting ready and trying to look cool for no reason.

This Music Video project is a combination of all the thing we learned over this past school year. It uses the skills we have learned in photoshop to make a creative band poster layout that includes good effects to showcase the main point of our music video. All of our film projects have been for us to get familiar with final cut pro so we could feel confident with the program for our editing process for the music video. We also learned the places of and how to use the effects Final Cut.

24K Magic By: Bruno Mars

I just want to take you higher
Throw your hands up in the sky
Let's set this party off right

Players, put yo' pinky rings up to the moon
Girls, what y'all trying to do?
Twenty four karat magic in the air
Head to toe so player
Look out uh

Pop pop, it's show time (show time)
Show time (show time)
Guess who's back again?
Oh they don't know? (go on tell 'em)
Oh they don't know? (go on tell 'em)
I bet they know soon as we walk in (showin' up)
Wearing Cuban links (ya)
Designer minks (ya)
Inglewood's finest shoes (whoop, whoop)
Don't look too hard might hurt ya'self
Known to give the color red the blues

Movie Trailer Premier

P2T3_Silhouette from Kapaa Middle School MEDIA on Vimeo.

Our new G.T. Project is to make a movie trailer. We did this project last year and my team's trailer went to a festival. You can check out my trailer from last year here. We have to make a movie trailer that is 90-120 seconds long that has dramatic voice acting and a movie poster. Our movie trailer is called "The Silhouette"and is about a creature that terrorizes a group of friends that are camping. My part in coming up with this idea was writing most of our Voice Acting script. I also helped make up some of the shots we were going to film. I was a director for some scenes so I tried to make the shots look good and be creative with how we filmed.

Our biggest challenge was filming in the location we were because we had planned to film in a forest by a partners house but there was not enough space to film so we had to improvise and film in a open space near the forest. This compromised a lot of shots as the scenery had changed. We had planned to film a shot panning from behind a tree which we couldn't do anymore. The costume we had was also very hard to film in since it was a very hot day and we had to stand in a trash bag waiting for the shot to be ready. We had to go out of the trash bag every few minutes to breath and cool down.
In our Movie Trailer Critique my team did fairly well. We got an A which means we reached the goal of the project. We also got 2 votes for the best movie trailer which put us in a tie for 3rd place. In this project I learned that people who aren't professionals can make really good movie trailers. They just need a creative movie plot, interesting and unique film shots, and focus and determination.

Metamorphosis Animation

P2T4 Metamorphosis from Kapaa Middle School MEDIA on Vimeo.

The project goal of this project is to present our two ideas and focus statements to the class. From the presentation we will learn which story our class believes is the best and will look good in a animation. We will then make a storyboard about our animation and start animating. Our storyboard will basically be a template and guider for our animation. Our animation will be 1-2 minutes long. We can do Stop Motion, Stykz, Photoshop, Or a flip book.

Our focus statement for our animation is Ant Achieves Confidence. Our first scene has a man stomping on a ant hill. Then it goes into the ant's world and they all scream and panic. It zooms in on our main character, James. He tries to get every one calm. Then Meah, James' sister tells him to stop since he's to small to do anything. Meah discourages James so James runs away. Behind him James ears his colonies cry in fear. He realizes he can't just sit around and do nothing. James sits and thinks about how he can  do something to help his friends and family. He gets an idea to make a way for everyone to escape through. James transforms into a drill and digs a tunnel system for his colony to escape through. After the man leaves, he helps build a new home for the colony.

I think my team did good in the animation and planning parts of this project.  I think the grade we got for our critique was. We got a 3 for clarity, understanding & message, a 3.1 for characters, props & backgrounds, a 3.1 for creativity, originality & execution, and a 3.3 for overall animation. This means that we met the requirements of our project but didn’t do fantastic or like a professional animation. Im happy with our grade. My team was pretty focused throughout the production of our animation and we got a pretty good result. One part we could've done better was the foley. I worked on two scenes in our animation and the music soundtrack.

Geometric Portraits

Made Her
Our next G.T.   project is a geometric portrait. This is a portrait of us or someone else that has a low-poly mesh on it. You can see these pictures on my blog and the blogs that are linked on the side. You will see different facial expressions on each blog. However, I think that each person has the same facial expressions as everyone. Some facial expressions will look different on other people but most should look the same. I think this because most people are the same and have similar DNA structures and feel the same emotions. I think that some of the main emotions that are universal are sadness, anger, joy, confusion, fear, and disgust. They aren't something that you can control and hide or show on purpose.

To create this project the first thing that you need is a photo of yourself. In this photo your head needs to be tilted to where your face is symmetrical or kind of symmetrical. Your face also needs to take up the entire picture leaving barely any space between your chin and the bottom and the top of your head and the top of the photo. Then you need to open up this photo in photoshop. You can make a line down the middle of your face so you only have to do this process once. Then go to view and grid. To make sure you have good polygons you can make an outline first or just start of with the Polygonal Lasso tool Make sure that snapping is on which you can check by going to View, Snap To, and Grid. Then you can make your polygons. When you have your polygon you can go to Filter, Blur and Average. Then hit command D to deselect your polygon. Then you can just hit command F to add the filter without going through the menu. This next step will be for the symmetrical picture only. Once you get the half of your face done then you can copy it and go to Image, and Flip Horizontally. Then position it to match the other side of your face.

My Poly-1 was better then my Poly-2. With my Poly-1 I wasn't as rushed with my triangles as I was for my Poly-2. I was able to focus on the smaller details with my Poly-1 and had cleaner triangles. With my Poly-2 I wasn't managing my time well and restarted my Poly-2 twice. I think that if I had 5 minutes I could've made my better and not as patchy in some places. I think that my picture for my Poly-2 had better lighting than my Poly-1 and the chin was done a lot better in my Poly-2.

Verbal Landscapes

KesslerJ_Retime from Kapaa Middle School MEDIA on Vimeo.

I interact with nature by doing activities like camping and hiking. I also like to take care of living things like animals and plants. When I garden sometimes I water plants, help plant seeds, and get soil ready so we can plant seeds in it. With animals I feed them, give them water, give them baths, and I make sure that they get attention. What I enjoy about camping is that you aren't held up by things like work. All you do is play around, relax, and have fun.

Timelapses and Slo-Mos are created through multiple steps. For a timelapse you will need a wide angled shot of action taking lace. This includes heavy raining, the sunsetting or rising, Trees shaking in the wind, etc. Timelapses usually don't include people or animals. Slow-Mos are close up shots of action that is meant to be looked at closely. This could include things like. To make them Slo-Mos or timelapses you can use editing programs like.

The hardest part of making the project was filming. During the filming process you had to make sure that your lighting was good. You also had to make sure your camera was not shaking and that there was some sort of movement in it. You also had to edit everything that you had just filmed. When editing, you had to make changes to each clip and make sure it had the best action out of everything. You had to make sure everything was cut to even a millisecond. My favorite part of this project was when I got to re-watch the finished project and got to see everything come together. I got to see how good my project was and all the filming I did on a big screen. It just made me happy that everyone was seeing all my hard work.

For this project I got a 3/4. In this class a 3 is an A and a 4 is exceeding an A. I think I got this grade because I forgot to make one of my clips a Slo-Mo after it got deleted. I also think that if I had made my poem a little louder that my video would've been better. I think my music and poem complimented my video really well.

Poetic Personal Statement

I think poetry is a sequence of words that have a deeper meaning than appears. A piece of poetry usually has one rhythm that it follows throughout the whole poem. Poetry can be considered many things like a well thought out piece of literature or something thrown together very quickly with unthoughtful rhymes. Poetry can also be personal in many ways. Poetry can be personal by it describing the qualities of the person it is being written for. It can also describe a moment in someone’s life. The reader could be able to tell the writers emotion on the experience that happened by the way it is written.
Success found in hard work
When I'm inspired my brain is like a firework
My other home is a soccer field,
When someone is destructive I can be my friend's shield
Stress builds up inside me like a ball,
Good friends help me get rid of it all

I used rhythm in the poetic personal statement to have it end on the words that matter the most like destructive. I used rhyme so that the poem would flow smoothly. I used it like this so that there wasn't stops in between each line. I think this may prevent people from getting distracted from listening. Also if I stopped on unimportant words like "is" the more important parts would be hard to detect.
